Mind Mapping

What?

A mind map structure helps you to categorize and sub-categorize information in a way that makes it easier to understand and navigate. Categorization helps our brains to make sense of complexity. And mind maps provide a hierarchical category structure that helps us navigate information more easily

When?

It is a great way to take notes in a visual way for teams including visual people, creative people, dyslexics, and young people.

Documentation

This tool was experienced in my personnal project of prevention of violent extremism.

We were given a theme: living off-grid, and then the mind mapping was a brainstorming that let me redefine the scope of my project.
From living off-grid, I went to living differently to the creation of cults and sects, and from then I start talking about religious cults and their radicalism that leads to violent extremism.

Best practices

When using this tool, make sure to satisfy the checkboxes below. You can find more details about each box in the bottom.

The setting

Before to start working on the map, prepare the right setting. Be in a space that allows you to think and be creative. Be sure to be in a calm and relaxed mindset.

The Topic

At this early stage of the ideation, allow yourself to dive as far as your brain goes. Don't hold yourself! Just make sure you have a starting point which is the main topic of your activity.

The Material

For this activity, you can either take a big sheet of paper and different markers, or you could do it on an online version that you can find under the template icon of this tool. Ideally, you would do it in a physical space because the physical activity fosters creativity into the brain.
